The “best moisturizers for summer” should be gel cream based ones that can provide hydration and protection from the sun. The 12 best gel-creams for summer will help you find the right one for your needs.
Summer necessitates a fresh skincare regimen that doesn’t feel heavy on your skin. In the heat, the last thing you want to deal with is layers of skincare melting off your face. However, skipping moisturizer is a no-no since, contrary to popular belief, perspiration does not hydrate or give your skin with the right sort of hydration. Enter gel-creams, the ultimate summer moisturizers.
This blend of two separate formulae is hyaluronic acid-rich and suitable for all skin types—not it’s too heavy, not too light, not sticky, and it’s non-comedogenic. We asked three celebrity dermatologists in Mumbai for their thoughts on the summer formula, and here’s what they had to say.

Why are Gel-creams preferable in the summer?
“The skin tends to be greasier and oilier during the hot summer months, when the mercury levels are rising high. “In the summer months when the humidity level is high, gel cream formulations are the greatest option,” says Dr Jamuna Pai, cosmetic physician, author, and creator of SkinLab. Using a gel-cream can help hydrate your skin and give it a fresh appearance and feel because of its water-based composition.
Is it true that Gel-creams are suitable for all skin types?
Gel-creams are effective for all skin types. “It helps hydrate dry skin types because to the water-based formulation, and it also works well with oily skin types due to the lack of oil in its formulas.” These mixes won’t irritate your skin since they’re light, and they’re also suitable for sensitive skin,” says Dr. Bijlani.
You may use a gel cream on the back of your ear if you have normal, oily, acne-prone, or somewhat dry skin. Go ahead and do it if it suits you. Those with dry or sensitive skin should still use a moisturizer that is tailored to their unique skin type. “If your skin still feels dry and flaky after using a gel cream, or if you sense a tight tugging feeling, particularly around the mouth region, then the product isn’t moisturizing your skin sufficiently,” Dr Pai says.
What is the most effective method for selecting the best gel cream for your skin type?
Dr. Bijlani offers a simple approach to selecting the best gel cream for your summer skincare regimen.
“It’s a good idea to use gel creams containing salicylic acid, lactic acid, or tea tree oil in it if you have acne-prone skin,” she says.
“If your skin tends to grow even drier in the summer, a gel-cream is definitely not for you.” Instead, use a regular cream if you have dry skin.
“Look for gel creams containing hyaluronic acid since it is a fantastic hydrating ingredient if you have normal or mixed skin.”
If you have oily skin: “Gel creams will be your greatest buddy if you have oily skin! However, if your skin is prone to becoming oily, look for a gel treatment that includes salicylic acid.”
How can you get the most out of your gel creams?
“Because gel creams are water-based, they tend to be cooling,” says Dr. Bijlani. “However, for further cooling advantages during the summer, you may put your favorite gel cream in the freezer before application.”
