Skin is a 15-year old girl who has been diagnosed with ichthyosis, a skin condition that caused her to be born without any body fat. Skin uses this diagnosis as an opportunity for personal growth and wellness by exploring the idea of what it means to “have” skin in today’s society.

The “ar-15 skin” is a product that has been made for the AR-15. It’s designed to provide protection to the rifle and it also comes in various colors.

It’s difficult to get a grip on your skin. It may seem self-evident, yet it is the truth. There are countless of skin-care advice and “miracle” remedies available online, and they all claim to fix whatever ails you. If you are lucky and discover a product that works, you’ll feel like you’ve regained control over your skin’s fate. But it’s the uncommon discovery that counts, and any dermatologist will tell you that, more often than not, you’ll need to go to a doctor’s office to get life-changing results—which isn’t always possible if you don’t have the time or money. When you add in all of the misinformation available on the internet, getting cleaner, healthier skin might seem like a minefield.

Our editors aren’t physicians, but we’ve spent a lot of time in their presence, both for interviews and for our own personal skin-care issues. Every day, someone in the workplace has something new to say. We thought it’d be a waste to keep that information to ourselves, so we asked the crew to share the finest skin-care advice they’ve ever gotten. Consider these suggestions as a starting point for developing a regimen that works for you.

Exfoliate less often.

“Go easy on the exfoliation,” is arguably the finest advice I’ve ever received. I used to use a facial scrub every day, fearing that my skin would break out if I didn’t clean the grit and filth off well enough. But it was a surprise when someone advised I exfoliate just a few times a week, alternating with a softer face wash. —Melissa Haney, manager of digital analytics

However, make sure you’re eliminating dead skin on a regular basis.

Every professional informs me that skin care can’t be effective if it’s constantly applied over a layer of dead skin. It’s for this reason that exfoliating a couple times a week is essential. For me, Biologique Recherche’s Lotion P50 1970 has made all the difference. Lori Hollingworth, my facialist, swears by it because of its moisturizing and exfoliating characteristics, which help to restore your skin. After that, any other product or therapy you use will be correctly absorbed. That’s very crucial for me since I make a lot of on-camera appearances and attend events where people are so close to your skin. Refrain from trying everything new.

I was bright-eyed, bushy-tailed, and giddy about all the skin-care items at my disposal when I first began in the field. I was testing them all the time, which was a mistake. There’s a rising preoccupation with skin care on social media, with loads of shelfies crammed into our feeds. As exciting as new releases are, it’s critical to discover out what works best for you and stay with it. Refrain from surprising your skin. Identify your individual issues (e.g., dryness, acne, discolouration) and create a short list of goods to address them. It isn’t technically sound counsel. I was handed to me by someone else, but reading labels has transformed my life. Despite having access to amazing products, I used to pour on everything in a nice container or with a buzzy name and wonder why my skin was always dry and dull. It turns out that I was completely oblivious to what was truly in things. Now I study every label, and if I don’t identify an ingredient, I look it up online or see a dermatologist. Stick to the directions on your items.

It may seem self-evident, yet it needs repeating: Pay attention to the directions. That informational booklet that comes with your next skin-care purchase? Before you put it in the garbage, make a point of soaking it completely in, particularly if it includes active chemicals like AHAs (glycolic acid or lactic acid), BHAs (salicylic acid), PHAs (lactobionic acid), or retinol. A lot of these components have a recommended time of usage (typically just at night) or length of time they should be left on your skin. Single substances may be equally as effective as complex mixtures.

My family is a big believer in honey’s healing properties (a large percentage of them live in Vermont and keep bees). I used to apply raw honey on wounds and scrapes and drink it in tea to relieve a sore throat when I was a kid. My grandmother advised me to use honey as a face mask when I was in my tweens and began breaking out. I still spread it on my face at the first indication of a breakout. Honey is an antibiotic that prevents acne, but it’s also a humectant that maintains moisture in your skin rather than draining it away. Drinking extra water isn’t a complete waste of time.

I’ve always heard that drinking a lot of water is the key to having excellent skin. I didn’t understand it wasn’t a total hoax until I went through a breakup and made it my distraction mission to refill my water bottle at least six times a day. Suddenly, everyone was remarking on how radiant my skin was. I’m not sure whether it was the water or the ice cream (well, maybe neither), but I strongly suggest it. —Design director Sarah Olin

There’s a distinction to be made between dry and dehydrated skin.

One of the most unexpected things I discovered from a dermatologist was that my Sahara-dry cheeks and chin weren’t caused by my combination skin, as I had assumed. Actually, I had greasy, dehydrated skin. The distinction between dry and dehydrated skin is because dry skin has fewer oil-producing glands than dehydrated skin. If you’re dehydrated, which may happen to anybody with any skin type, it implies your skin is short in water, not oil. Dehydration may be caused by a variety of factors, including the weather, your surroundings, and how much water vs coffee you consume, all of which can reduce the amount of water in your skin. Dehydrated skin has greater redness, congestion, and inflammation than dry skin, which is frequently tight and irritating. I stopped using heavy moisturizers (which just made my breakouts worse) and began drinking more water and utilizing moisturizing hyaluronic acid serums after learning this. Many dermatologists and physicians will urge you to apply hefty steroid creams to your skin if you have eczema (hello! ), but I’ve discovered that although this helps for some individuals, it doesn’t work for me. It’s simply too much, especially when I have a nasty patch on the delicate skin around my eyes. I discovered a hydrating toner that doesn’t suffocate my skin as a spot treatment after doing some research online (I swear by Dr. Jart + Ceramidin). —Shanna Shipin, editor of commerce

Consider your daily routine to be a deliberate trial and error.

My greatest skin-care advice is to treat yourself as if you were a scientist doing research. Skin care is very personal; what works for your closest friend or mother may not work for you. What is my recommendation? Begin with the essentials (retinol, vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, and so on) and see how your skin responds to each one individually. To figure out what’s driving any changes, try to remove as many factors as possible. The best anti-ageing product is sunscreen.

For years, I suffered in silence because I adored skin care but disregarded every expert’s most fundamental piece of advice: use sunscreen every damn second of every damn day, even while you’re sleeping. I was splurging on serums while ignoring the one product that may prevent wrinkles and skin cancer. Why? Sunscreen is depressing! It doesn’t have a nice feel or scent to it. It has a tendency to pill under makeup. How could I rationalize smearing oil on my face after spending years attempting to defeat my one genuine enemy (acne)? Friends, pals, friends. All you have to do now is locate a sunscreen that works for you. Essence of Safe Blocking All Around Missha Sun Milk absorbs into my skin and disappears, like well-behaved Boy Scouts at a camp site. It’s small enough to put in my handbag and has no resemblance to chlorine or, God forbid, sand. Find the proper sunscreen for you, let go of your guilt, and go back to splurging on serums. Make your pillowcase work harder for you by repurposing it.

Changing your sheets and pillowcases on a regular basis is vital for obvious reasons of hygiene, but switching to silk pillowcases has completely transformed my skin and hair. I’ve perfected my bedtime ritual, but I’ve always had the feeling that my nighttime oils and lotions rubbed out on my pillows at some point. My face doesn’t adhere to the pillow at all with my silk pillowcases, and I can still feel some of my moisturizing goods in the morning. The skin on your body is just as important as the skin on your face.

I’m a huge supporter of using an exfoliating sponge in the shower since it’s about as simple as it gets. It makes a significant difference—I always pay the repercussions when I’m out of sponges or just too lazy to put a fresh one in the shower. (Think acne.) Seriously, wash your face at night.

I wasn’t always good at removing my foundation at the end of the day, and as a last option, I’d use a makeup wipe. My skin is sensitive, however, and I’ve always suspected that something in the wipes caused my eyes to puff out. (And don’t even get me started on my skin if I forget to apply one.) My closest friend introduced me to the local drugstore cosmetic items she was enamored with when I was studying abroad in Paris, and I ultimately discovered the cure. I was first skeptical, but she introduced me to Bioderma micellar water, which I’ve been using ever since. It’s as simple as using a wipe, yet it’s so delicate that it doesn’t bother my skin. When everything else fails, it’s time to go pro.

Accutane, in a nutshell. After ten years of dealing with acne, my dermatologist’s final option worked wonders. In three months, my skin changed from awful to supermodel.
